Caitlyn Jenner had the perfect response to Ricky Gervais’ joke about her during his Golden Globes opening monologue: become next year’s host of the show instead.
The I Am Cait star is currently promoting season 2 of her E! reality
TV show, and broke her silence on his Globes remark during her a press
conference at Television Critics Tour with reporters in Pasadena
yesterday (Jan. 14).
She told reporters, “On Ricky, I think what I’m gonna do is call the
Golden Globes and see if they need a new host for next year. And we’ll
solve that problem.”
The 54-year-old is a notoriously excessive and harsh comedian, so his
offensive jokes were at the very least expected during this year’s
awards show:
I’ve changed. Not as much as Bruce Jenner, obviously. Now Caitlyn Jenner, of course. What a year she’s had. She became a role model for trans people everywhere, showing great bravery in breaking down barriers and destroying stereotypes… She didn’t do a lot for women drivers. But you can’t have everything, can you? Not at the same time.
He later defended his joke on Twitter:
In actuality, his joke isn’t so much transphobic as it is purely misogynistic…
Jenner was joined at the press conference by friends Candis Cayne and Chandi Moore.
She also commented on being labeled spokesperson for the trans
community, saying “I’m only a spokesman for me and my story. I have so
much to learn in this community.”
