Guys, this is the Atretochoana eiselti, a slippery critter famed for its resemblance to, well… you know what. SEE photo below..
They were first discovered in the waters of the Amazon in 1968 and are so rare that there weren’t any other confirmed sightings until an entire family was found in 2012.
The amphibious creatures are blind, and live in the fast-flowing Amazon river.
Biologist Julian Tupan was working for an energy company when his firm came across a family whilst excavating a dam back in 2012. He said at the time:
“Of the six we collected, one died, three were released back into the wild and another two were kept for studies.
“Despite looking like snakes, they aren’t reptiles and are more closely related to salamanders and frogs.
“We think the animal breathes through its skin, and probably feeds on small fish and worms, but there is still nothing proven.
