Currently, the Nigerian industry makes a lot of amazing videos, a few
of which can compete with their foreign counterparts but still there
are some movie makers who make the traditional type of movies. I just can't seem to understand them.
Here’s how to know a traditional Nigerian kinda movie:
1. It has a ridiculous title
From the name you should know honestly. “Arrow of Love”, “Pain of Love”,
“Beyonce and Rihanna” and all that. Except you seek local comedic
relief, you shouldn’t be watching these.
2. They have a lot of unnecessary sequels
Once you see a movie that has a lot of ‘parts’, it’s most likely one
of those traditional kinda movie. Nowadays, it’s been called a season.
They’re the same movie, just broken into multiple parts.
3. The first fifteen to twenty minutes are adverts
A classic Nollywood movie has tons of adverts with almost the same
voice talking about “Number 1 Pound Road, Aba ” to throw you off
balance.
These last for about a few minutes until you’re tired and probably have given up and then, the movie starts.
4. The background music will explain what happened
Lost at a point? Or you have to do something urgent? Not to worry.
The background music will categorically tell you how Nneka broke Jimi’s
heart and now, she can’t find another boyfriend.
5. There’s little or no consistency
Imagine the lead character wearing a short hair the first day and
next morning, she has a head full of braids? Where’s the consistency?
6. Always ends abruptly
And just when you’ve managed to sit through and watch the most
difficult part of the movie, you see “To God Be The Glory” with the
members of cast being rolled out and you’re like…
