Late last night, a military coup erupted in Turkey as an army group
announced via television that a “peace council” had taken over the
government and now ran the country.
A coup is a sudden, violent, and illegal seizure of power from a government.
CNN reports that there were tanks and soldiers in the streets while
there are reports that there was gunfire and explosions at a parliament
building in country’s capital, Ankara which killed 12 people.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, who wasn’t
in the country when the coup started, returned early this morning and is
said to have urged his supporters to go into the streets and protest
against the attempted overthrow of government by the military factions.

Unfortunately, ace comedian AY Makun, singer Peter Okoye and Nollywood actor Osita Iheme
are currently in Turkey and fans have expressed their concern over
their safety as Turkey is currently in chaos with the democratic
government and the military group clashing.
The trio flew into the country days ago to support the charity match
of Cameroonian footballer, Samuel Eto’o which was set to hold on today,
July 16.
A few hours ago, AY finally took to IG page to address his concerned
fans, assuring that himself, Peter and Osita are safe. He also asked his
fans to pray for them and Turkey.
