Joseph Yobo confirmed as NPFL ambassador

Joseph Yobo has been unveiled as an ambassador of the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The former Nigeria and Everton defender was unveiled on Monday by Fifa president Gianni Infantino.

Yobo now joins a list of sportspersons from around the world who support and promote the Nigeria topflight.

“Honored to be unveiled LMC NPFL ambassador by Fifa president Gianni Infantino. We must develop our Local League,” Yobo tweeted.

“The local league is the foundation of any Nation's football. We need to rebuild our league football to enviable heights. Together We Can!

“Big shout out to Shehu Dikko & Nduka Irabor for their belief and efforts to pull this through. The success of our LMCNPFL is unstoppable.”

The 35-year-old will be assigned a club soon, with Akwa United, IfeanyiUbah FC, Kano Pillars and Wikki Tourists all said to have registered interest in the former Everton defender.

Should this happen, Yobo will join the NPFL under the Elite Players Scheme that seeks to assign players of international repute to Nigerian club sides in a bid to further improve the quality of the league.

The scheme is to ensure that elite players bring star quality that will bring fans to stadia during their short stints.
