Did you (finally) land an interview with a new company? As you put your
best foot forward to land the job of your dreams, follow these five
Stylist tips to show off your killer professional style.
1. Do Your Research
Before you head into the office for an in-person interview, try to
get a sense of the company’s office culture and whether it’s ultra
conservative or more relaxed. Do your best to style an outfit that fits
into the office vibe. Applying for a creative position? Try a pair of
cropped, fitted trousers with lace-up brogues, slim-fit blazer &
some geek-chic glasses. Are you looking for a job in client services?
Keep your look buttoned-up quite literally! Opt for a silk blouse, dark
neutral blazer & fitted pencil skirt. To polish the look off, you
can try a statement shoe like a brightly colored pump.
2. Show Off Your Personality
Use style to leave a lasting first impression by incorporating some
of your personality into your outfit. It can be a cardigan in your
favorite color, your signature eye glasses, or subtle bohemian detailing
on your skirt—your future employer will appreciate your sense of style
& your sense of self!
3. Practice In Your Outfit
Walk into your interview confident in not only your skills, but also
your appearance! Try your outfit on a couple days before to make sure
that you’re fully at ease and not distracted by a top you need to keep
tugging or high-maintenance accessories that you’re not used to wearing.
The key here is to be yourself.
4. Carry A Layer
If you’re interviewing during the summer months, the tendency is to
wear less layers. However, once you hit inside, the AC will most likely
be turned up high. So, you’re going to want to cover up not only for
temperatures sake, but to also keep your arms & shoulders covered
during your interview. To keep cool en route, slip a layer or scarf over
your arm or into your tote then pop it on right when you get to the
office. You’ll arrive looking refreshed & cool.
5. Finish Strong With Accessories
An interview is the time to show your attention to detail, so make
sure it shows in the outfit you wear. Focusing on accessories is a great
way to complete your look. If you’re toting your chicest handbag, try
sporting a bright handkerchief tied around the hand for a pop of
color—it will show your interviewer that you took an extra step to style
your look (which means you’ll go the extra mile in the new position,
too!).
