The horrific moment a fairground ride crashed, killing one and injuring at least seven, was captured on video.
It happened on a ride called the ‘Disco Dancer’ in India, which whirls people around as they stand facing outwards.
Men can be heard whooping and laughing as they enjoy the ride, but
the film goes silent when the wheel crashes towards the camera after
coming unsecured.
Around 28 workers at Chennai Kishkinta Amusement Park had been
instructed to get on board on Wednesday after the ride was damaged by
flooding, local media reported.
We’ve taken the choice to include video of the incident but have cut footage before the ride falls to the ground. Discretion is still advised:
The ride had broken down and after fixing it owners wanted to test if it was working as it should.
When the ride crashed, riders were thrown in different directions. A 19-year-old was killed and others were seriously injured.
Lokesh, 17, was one of those on board.
‘We said we won’t join, but we were forced to and after two rounds there was some weird noise,’ he told India Today.
‘Many of us screamed and wanted to get off but the organisers went ahead with it.’
His father Velan added:
‘He was forced to get into the ride. His hand is broken and he has minor injuries to his face and legs. I shouldn’t have sent him for work.
The paper said both the owner and manager of the theme park were arrested.
