You
might think about how often you and your S.O. have sex, but have you
ever wondered how much of your overall life is spent in the bedroom?
A new survey by Reebok answered this question by analyzing how many hours and what percentages of our lives are spent on various activities, including sex.
A new survey by Reebok answered this question by analyzing how many hours and what percentages of our lives are spent on various activities, including sex.
The
survey asked 9,000 people in North America, Europe, and Asia how much
time they spend doing different things and calculated what proportion of
their lives each activity constituted based on the average life span of
25,915 days. The amount of time we spend having sex—117 days, or
168,480 minutes—may seem like a lot if you imagine doing it all at once.
But that's only .45 percent of our lives—a pretty meager amount of time
compared to everything else. For example, people spend 41 percent of
their lives engaged with technology (though, considering that one in 10
people check their phones during sex, the time spent on those two things could overlap).
Since sex lasts around five and a half minutes
on average, that would mean we have sex over 30,000 times throughout
our lives... which sounds pretty high. It's possible that Reebok's
results include foreplay, which would mean longer time but fewer
sessions overall.
We
may spend less than half a percent of our lives doing one of our
favorite activities, but the good news is that we spend 6.8 percent of
our time on another important one: socializing with our loved ones. Some
research
has shown that couples don't actually need a lot of sex for a happy
relationship, so it's possible the latter is more important. It may be
fun to think about how we allocate our time, but it's the quality of
that time that really matters.
