David de Gea’s on-off transfer to Real Madrid could still yet go ahead, Ramon Calderon has claimed. The former president of the Galacticos hinted an agreement may well
be in place which could allow the Spanish giants to finally seal the
signing of the Manchester United goalkeeper.
‘Apparently there is some agreement,’ Calderon said in an interview with talkSport.
‘They had a deal from last summer for him to come, but I can’t tell you [for sure] as I don’t have personal knowledge of that.’
The 25-year-old looked odds-on to seal a move to the Bernabeu last
September, only for the projected transfer to collapse when the
shot-stopper instead signed a new four-year contract extension with
United.
Calderon’s revelation, however, suggests such a deal may not be dead
in the water, although he does have his doubts over the motives of any
potential switch.
‘It would be really strange if David de Gea came, but no doubt he is
one of the best and also he’s a Spaniard, which helps,’ added Calderon,
who was Madrid president between 2006 and 2009.
‘It was really weird what happened last summer.
‘[But] Keylor Navas is playing well, like you saw last night [against Barcelona]. He is doing that in many matches.’
