The Gunmen took on General Athanase Kararuza’s car, killing him and
his wife at the spot. Their daughter survived and was rushed to the
hospital as she sustained injuries.
More than 400 people have been killed since President Pierre
Nkurunziza said he would run for a third term last April and a string of
high-ranking army officials have been targeted during the conflict.
Security forces have also been accused by Amnesty Officials of killing
opponents and dumping them in mass graves.
After the attack, the International Criminal court announced that it
will start a preliminary investigation into the violence in Burundi.
May they rest in peace.
