A group of legal practitioners have decided to stage a rally in Abuja
to show support for the anti-graft war being championed by President
Muhammadu Buhari.
The group, of Coalition of Lawyers Against Corruption in Nigeria (COLAC) plan to stage their rally on March 25.
This information was made available by the executive members of the
group led by Barrister Olusegun Bamgbose during an official visit to the
State House in Abuja
The group was received by Mr Femi Adeshina, the special adviser to the president on media and publicity.
Also on the delegation were three zonal directors, Barristers
Muhammed Garba from the North-West), Muhammed Musa representing the
North-Central and Ejike Ben Anwu of the South-East. The lawyers said a
minimum of 500 lawyers from different parts of the country who will go
in a motorcade round Abuja, sensitizing the populace on the need for all
and sundry to join, and, indeed, own the anti-graft war.
Bamgbose said: “The war is not for President Muhammadu Buhari alone
to fight. It is for all of us. When corruption is tackled, the power
problem will be solved, health care would be provided, there would be
quality education, and the quality of lives of Nigerians would improve.
It is, therefore, in our own interest to join in the corruption war, and
that is what COLAC is out to achieve.”
Adesina, in his response, appreciated the lawyers for partnering with
the government in the corruption war, assuring them that they had
embarked on a worthy cause, as President Buhari was resolute in his
determination to clean up the country.
Meanwhile, dozens of Nigerians took to the streets of Abuja to
support the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission anti-corruption
campaign and latest arrests of prominent Nigerian public figures.
