Actor George Gaynes – best remembered for playing Commandant Lassard
in the Police Academy films as well as Punky Brewster’s grumpy foster
dad Henry Warnimont – has died aged 98.
His daughter Iya Gaynes Falcon Brown confirmed his death, saying he passed away on Monday at her home in North Bend, Washington.
The Finnish-born actor and baritone singer appeared in over 35 films
during his career and countless TV shows, as well as musical comedies
and operas in Europe and the US.
But despite being a recognizable face on the big and small screen, he
never achieved leading man stardom – instead becoming known as a
prolific character actor.
