Okwuchukwu Ibekwe, 28, who lives on Shinaba Street, Iyana Iba, Lagos,
was apprehended for selling his 5-month-old son to a syndicate in Anambra
State, for N400k to raise some money after he had some difficulties in his trade. He did so with his wife’s consent.
They had contacted one Chinelo, who is still on the run, on December
17, 2015, for the transaction. It was learnt that Chinelo, who stayed in
Ihiala, Anambra State, paid them N400k, N250k to the father and N150k
to the mother.
Okwuchukwu however had a quarrel with his wife after he refused to
give her her portion. This prompted her to report the matter to the police
and flee the house. Okwuchukwu was, however, arrested and detained at
the Police Gender Unit, Ikeja.
The baby and Chinelo are yet to be found. Okwuchukwu said his wife
was the one who suggested that they should dispose of the baby to meet
their business needs. The police are intensifying efforts to recover the
baby.
