Two nephews of Mrs Ogo Omereji, 63, masterminded her abduction and
tortured her to death, after collecting ransom. She was kidnapped in her
farm at Awara community, Imo State, on September 26, 2015.
The abduction was executed by two of her nephews, Emeka Chinedu, 27,
and Peter Obido, 28, with the active participation of Gift Emeka, 26,
and Sunday Uchenna, 28. They kept her in the forest for 3 months and
demanded N2m ransom from the family.
After much effort, the family paid N510k, but while waiting for the
balance, Omereji died. They quickly dug a grave, buried her without
informing her family and left the forest.
Operatives of the Anti-Kidnapping Squad of the Imo State Police
Command, however launched a diligent investigation and arrested them.
They are now awaiting trial in court while Omereji’s decomposing body
has been exhumed and released to the family for proper burial.
